About the plant

Indian mallow is a soft grey-downy shrub of waste ground across the tropics, with heart-shaped velvety leaves, yellow-orange flowers that open in the afternoon, and a fruit like a small wheel of segments, each segment ending in a short beak. The whole plant is covered in fine star-shaped hairs. Its stem yields a coarse fibre, and it is a serious weed of cotton fields because the two are related. Note the naming point in the warnings.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Names overlap on this seed. The Dong Kui Zi of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia is the seed of Malva verticillata; Abutilon seed is Qing Ma Zi, a different plant traded under the same name. Check which one you are buying. Not for use in pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
